Principles of Patent Law: 1999 Supplement: Cases and Materials
Published in Paperback by Foundation Press (August, 1999)
Authors: Donald S. Chisum, Craig Allen Nard, Herbert F. Schwartz, Pauline Newman, and F. Scott Kieff
Average review score:

The Patent Guru's book
Which is one author's name which comes to the mind of a patent law attorney for authoritative patent information? Donald Chisum is one of the foremost authority on patent law. His other book is a giant encylopaedia on patents. Honestly, many many of us are never going to read that big encylopaedia. But the same man along with Nard, Swartz, Newman and Kieff has written this casebook. This book is a must read for all those who want to get the best of Chisum's knowledge of patents.

It has the mandatory history part followed by philosophy and economics of patent law. There are two excellent chapters on Nonobvoiousness and and Utility. Cases are selected with care and properly edited. There are some sidebars too.

Problems of Idealism: Essays in Russian Social Philosophy (Russian Literature and Thought)
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (April, 2003)
Authors: Randall Allen Poole, Owen Bennett Jones, and Caryl Emerson
Average review score:

An important book, and a great read.
This collection of essays by Russia's leading liberal thinkers at the turn of the century presents a powerful intellectual case for liberalism that is a must-read for anyone interested in Russian history or the problems of liberalism in contemporary Russia. Randall Poole's clear introduction gives the full historical and philosophical context. It is less polemical, more constructive, and in many ways even more interesting than the later and more famous Vekhi collection of essays by (mostly) the same people.

Professional ASP.NET Performance
Published in Paperback by Wrox Press Inc (November, 2002)
Authors: Matt Odhner, Doug Thews, James Avery, James Greenwood, Andrew Reid, and K. Scott Allen
Average review score:

A great book!
This book is exceptional. It provides several programming scenarios for different operations, then lists the good and bad points of each. It also explains in which situation they are best used. For example: .NET Remoting vs. Web Services vs. COM

There are several performance tips given that I never thought about and they really work . . . I, of course, had to test them for myself.

If you are like me, you don't have time to test every scenario to find out which technique is best for every situation, this book helped to guide me in the right direction.

A Proper Garden: On Perennials in the Border
Published in Hardcover by Stackpole Books (September, 1989)
Authors: Elisabeth Sheldon and Allen Patterson
Average review score:

enlightening and detailed
Considering I live about ten miles away from the author and visited her garden with my club last summer, one might not think me a very objective critic. And regarding this book, I'm probably not. I found the book full of good information about the perennials that florish here in unpredictable zone 5, and great suggestions for beautiful color combinations. The book is really for avid gardeners who are interested in further studies of particular plants and their cultivars, and the experiences of a gardener/artist who treats the garden as her canvas. She is a bit of a garden snob, and if you are partial to cutsey planters and other garden fixtures, don't bother with this book.

Prostate Cancer: Overcoming Denial with Action: A Guide to Screening, Treatment, and Healing
Published in Paperback by Quality Medical (15 January, 1997)
Authors: Allen E. Salowe, Leon M. Lessinger, and Leon M. Lessinge
Average review score:

Make a decision to save your life and read this book!
My good friend, Allen Salowe, survived prostate cancer and cared enough about others not having to endure what he went through that he took the time to write this excellent overview of a deadly disease and its early detection and treatment. Allen writes in an interesting, easy-to-read, no-nonsense style, so any male over the age of 40 should invest a few hours in learning how to increase his odds against potential death resulting from prostate cancer. Because of Allen's experience and his book, I now have an annual DRE and PSA test. (If you want to know what these are, read the book!) -Bill King

The Prostate Sourcebook
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (11 November, 1998)
Authors: Steven Morganstern and Allen E. Abrahams
Average review score:

A Book That Every Man Should Own
If you are a man and are experiencing difficulty while trying to empty your bladder, getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, or who has the urgent and sometimes painful need to urinate, your prostate may be trying to send you a message. If you have pain in your private parts, especially after having sex or urination, be sure to consider the possible source of the referred pain as the prostate.

Prostatitis (inflammation and or infection in the prostate) can make a man miserable. Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH), better known as enlarged prostate, affects most men eventually and accounts for one of the most frequent reasons of surgery on men each year. Finally, prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of death in men.

All of these subjects and more are handled deftly by Dr. Morganstern and Dr. Abrahams, who have written a book that is easy to understand and emminently useful. If you are looking for answers and resources this is the book to get. Even if you are already seeing a urologist, you need this book!

If you are having problems with your prostate, or want to learn what to do to prevent them, or are a concerned partner wanting to help and support the man in your life, I highly recommend this book.

As a man who has suffered from untreated prostatitis and middle lobe hypertrophy, I wholeheartedly endorse this book. It may save your sanity and could certainly save your life.

Protector With a Past (Intimate Moments, 1091)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (July, 1901)
Author: Harper Allen
Average review score:

Incredible book.
This is the one book I could not go to sleep with, I had to continue reading. The love scene is better than the ones in the movie "9½ weeks" and the plot is intense. I was so happy to find out that "King" wasn't dead, I almost cried reading this novel. Keep it up, Harper, I hope to read another of your books soon, I roam the bookstores, Wallmart is out of them and I need more copies to send to friends. I was so lucky to have a few days off to simply read through and I truly enjoyed every line of Protector with a Past. Wish I could write like this.
